Minutes of a Meeting of the Burials Committee
held on Monday 23rd November 2020 from 7:39pm
by video link in accordance with regulations issued under Section 78 of the Coronavirus Act 2020.

BC20.29 Members present: Committee Chair Resident Margaret Sleet, Councillors John Dadge, Malcolm Spinks. In attendance: Clerk Catherine Franks
BC20.30 Apologies for absence: Councillor Brian Spriggs (medical). Absent without apology: Councillor Elaine Mann
BC20.31 Minutes of the previous meeting, held on Monday 28th September 2020 were Confirmed as a true record and signed by the Chair.
BC20.32 Public forum: None
BC20.33 Outstanding programme of works:
a. The Guide for Relatives as amended since the last meeting was Approved. ACTION – Clerk to forward to local funeral directors and stonemasons.
b. Proposed notices for the new cemetery noticeboard and website were Approved subject to amendment to add the council ‘logo’ on printed notices.
BC20.34 Maintenance of burial grounds:
a. Members noted an update on outstanding works, viz:
• Cemetery footpath had progressed.
• Churchyard footpath now under 28 day consultation as part of the faculty application process.
• Fence painting had been completed.
b. A proposal to obtain quotes to refurbish the cemetery gates was considered, work to be carried out during financial year 2021/22. It was unclear just what work was required, so Committee Agreed to approach three potential contractors for a proposal of work required and quotes for next meeting. ACTION – All to provide potential contractor details to Clerk.
BC20.35 There were no recommendations for expenditure to be brought to Council.
BC20.36 Correspondence:
a. Emails with a relative about items missing from a grave were Noted. Committee members offered their sympathy to the relative and confirmed that the council’s role was to monitor the general condition of the cemetery but could take no responsibility for personal items.
BC20.37 Members’ and Clerk’s reports on recent activity. None.
BC20.38 Date of next meeting, Monday 22nd February 2021, 7.30pm.
